School Calendar Approval Process on Hold Pending IDOE Guidance:
Approval and publication of the Ankeny Schools 2015-2016 school calendar is currently on hold pending guidance from the Iowa Department of Education (IDOE) regarding new rules for school start dates. This guidance is expected in January, after which the school district will continue its calendar approval process and announce the availability of the school calendar to parents.  The IDOE has informed school districts that they will not automatically grant waivers to start the school year early, as in the past.  This clearly has great implications for Ankeny Schools due to the high percentage of students who earn post-secondary dual credits through Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  Additional guidance from the IDOE is expected in January. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay in publication may cause.
Classes to be in session on April 24 snow make-up day:
Due to classes being cancelled for inclement weather on January 7, Ankeny Schools will use the April 24 “Built in Snow Day” shown on the district calendar to make up the missed day.  Instead of being a day off from school, regular classes will be in session and students will attend school on Friday, April 24.
Iowa Assessments

Parkview will be administrating the Iowa Assessments (which was formally known as ITBS: Iowa Tests of Basic Skills) starting on January 20 through January 29.  Students will report to their advisories at 8:30 (9:30 on Wednesday).  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call the Parkview office at 965-9640.

The schedule for tests will be:  Tuesday, January 20:  Reading Comp I & II; Wednesday, January 21:  Science; Thursday, January 22: Math I & II;  Friday, January 23:  Social Studies & Vocab.;  Tuesday, January 27-Thursday, January 29:  Test Make-ups.

Orientation Meeting for Our 7th Graders

The 2015-2016 Orientation Meeting for incoming 8th grade students will be held on Thursday, February 5th at Southview Middle School in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:00pm.  Come and learn about the course selection and registration process for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.  Guidance counselors and principals will present information and answer questions about course options, as well as talk about the similarities and differences between grade levels.  This evening is designed to give students and parents the information necessary to make important decisions when selecting next year’s courses.  We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please call the Southview Office at 965-9635

Activities Fair for Incoming 2015-16 8th Graders
Southview Middle School will host an Activities Fair for incoming 8th grade students and parents following the Feb. 5th
orientation meeting at 6:30pm. This will be set up in the Auxiliary Gym at Southview Middle School. Please walk through and visit with coaches/activity sponsors, and students involved in athletic and activity programs after the orientation meeting. We look forward to seeing you there. Please call the Southview Office at 965-9635 with inquiries.

Cold Weather has Arrived...

With the arrival of cold weather, we wanted to remind parents of our building hours.  Students are not allowed in school buildings or on school property before 7:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays (with the exception of jazz band students who can arrived after 7:15) and after 8:30 on Wednesdays.  We do not have supervision before these times so we need your help with this as our student’s safety and security are very important to us.

Take appropriate steps to help keep Ankeny students and schools healthy -
You may have noticed a number of news reports lately about the flu.  Flu season is definitely upon us, and our nurses want to remind everyone of procedures that can help minimize the spread of flu.
On behalf of all Ankeny Schools students and staff, thank you for taking time to follow these guidelines and help to keep our schools healthy.
